In the midst of a more than busy day, I had the privilege of being with one fine man…John Andrew, who lives here in Colorado. I thought you should know a bit about him. If you go to his website you will find out more about what he's about.
Impressed am I that he has a sincere and dynamic desire to impact our world through what I would call “indie music” with a creative flavor and for-real twist that is bringing/will bring much delight and honor to our Triune God. John is wanting to release and encourage musicians of all kinds from the “Christian karaoke” of most worship services. He wants to bring together authentic and multi-varied musical artists…who are truly exceptional in their artistry…not just “pleasant Christian mediocre tune players”...to new levels. His heart for the musical arts...funky, down-n-dirty (oops, maybe I went too far there...), jazz, blues, rock, pop, alternative, classical, you name it...is immense.
He wants to see good musicians of all stripes and hues, instrumentalists, lyricists and vocalists, become excellent…and excellent musicians become exceptional. Then he hopes to encourage those men and women to have a variety of venues “out there” in God's world where they will perform in such a way that this God we are coming to know is musically honored with great riffs, original music, and in places where (oh, my) regular Christians might not show up on Friday and Saturday nights (make mine hefewezen…or however one spells that type of suds).
He is currently syndicating a most unique radio program…and would like more places to have it known. Read through his site…ask him some questions…and expect thought-through answers. I liked this guy and hope for more conversation in the next few weeks…just wish there were more brave souls like him who are willing to swim against the proverbial tide.
One caution about John… :) …at one point in his recent life he was #1 in the world in his weight in karate. He's a serious 5th degree black belt. Zowee! I was careful how I shook his hand when saying goodbye. Just kidding…'twas good to do lunch with another exceptional emerging leader with a deep heart, a curious mind and a unique dream to see God's kingdom expanding in a way that will impact the souls of all!
