...and there are 153 days left until 2016
Here in Colorado all seasons have their wonder-filled moments. But I will have to admit that getting to hike in the summer has rewards that some times takes one beyond words of description.
And...with those mentorees both willing and capable, one of the best of times during the summer is taking, one person at a time...unless it is a father and son/daughter moment...up for a whole day in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). These are long, arduous 15 hour days, hiking at least 10 miles, covering truly amazing vistas throughout the park.
This week there was the luxury of being up in RMNP twice, Tuesday and Thursday. Two leaders, 28 and 43...both good men, husbands, dads (one with two daughters, one wee size, one to be born soon...one with two teen daughters and one younger son), creative, dedicated leaders who are committed to deep personal growth in all 8 dimensions of their own lives.
Though the days in the "hills" were only two days apart, the park was amazingly different both times in what we experienced...together as men, mentor/mentorees, even across the decades, as growing friends. I am humbled daily at this exceptional sacred privilege I have of walking with such souls into their unfolding futures.
So, at the end of a meaning-filled day, heading for Estes Park (...and my favorite bison burger place. up there..), we rounded a corner on Trail Ridge Road...and whoa!!! I found a safe place to park...we hurried back to what my friend saw.......and wow!
We stood just a few yards from this big boy and watched him devour his evening salad...right by the side of the road as the sun was beginning to set. This was a welcome and surprising parting memory to yet another fulfilling day full of amazing grace with one more truly exceptional leader on the grow...........
...anyone else up for a full day of exceptional moments in RMNP? :-)
