Sunday evening: 22Sept13--100 days to go until the end of 2013!
Hard to believe. 2013 will be concluded in 100 days!
Where has time gone...........?
Today time was spent with one other man I'm mentoring here in the City. He, his wife, and two daughters have just moved back here from Denver, where we met. Josh Chambers, one of the more creative and talented souls I know, is on a mission. It's an honor to encourage him on his journey.
I don't know quite what to make of something that happened when we were grabbing a bite of lunch at a splendid little place in his new neighborhood. Something similar has happened, quite out of the blue, once or twice a day on this journey east. A bit mystical. Sincerely.
Josh and I were in intense and rich conversation, catching up on the move and talking forward into his life. Our waiter stopped us, kindly, at one point and said something like, "There is something around you two, like an aura of peace and hope that I can't quite describe. It's been like that ever since you sat down. I can sense it, and I can almost see it."
MMMmmmmmmmmm...........what is that about?
On the L Subway over to the West Village earlier today, a sweet little African lady who was quietly humming hymns got off the train with me. Walking up the steps she lightly touched me on my arm and said, "You know Jesus, don't you?" I said, "Yes, I do." Her next response was, "There is something around you that just let's me know that. God bless you." Off she went down 14th.
Last night, watching a wonderful theatre production, at the intermission, an older gentleman behind me asked what I do for a living, like out of the blue. Telling him, he responded, "My wife and I saw you in line, and we could just sense some sort of presence around you. Are you a Christian?"
OK. So what's up. To know me is to know I'm no saint.
Before the show I walked over to a Barnes & Noble to buy a new journal to collect some thoughts, and had some coffee before walking back to the theatre. A man there in the store said, again, out of the blue, "There is something in the way you look at people that makes me want to look at them, too, differently than I was looking at them. What do you do for a living?"
I had another similar encounter on the train coming up here on Friday morning. All that has me thinking, what do we, thee and me, give off when we are moving through life. It's just been strange that total strangers have been saying odd things, at random, while watching me.
What do people who do not know you see when they watch you? It's been a strange series of brief events. Not quite sure what to make of it.
We went to Tim Keller's Downtown Redeemer Church held in a huge Salvation Army auditorium, and even got to hear Tim bring the message at the 5pm service. Much to soulishly munch on from this good man. It was a delight to meet friends of both James and Betsy.
The music was a cool jazz intrepretation of some old hymns. The singing from all the cultures represented filled the space with reverent joy. Looking around, I, too, could see a light, a vibrancy on the faces around me.
The Light of the world does shine from within, when allowed. How many times do I cover that up with a snarly attitude or being too busy? These days have allowed me the gift of time to be focusing from the inside out. Maybe that has made the difference.
What do you need to be about doing to let the light shine?
