Saturday: 21Sept13--experiencing the city at it's best.......
My host and I got up early and headed up town where he does a two hour Saturday workout in Central Park. He worked out and I walked about four miles around the park. In the exceptional fall weather, hundreds of people were making the most of the time out on a Saturday.
Some "evangelists" were shouting to others that everyone was going to hell if they didn't kneel and repent right there and now. Not magical.
The New York City Schools were having a massive (like hundreds of games set up around the Bethesda Fountain) elimination chess tournament. Hundreds were showing up. Evidently this girl is the best in her class, and she was driving these guys nuts with her moves. :-) Good on her!
Being James mentor, as with all those I've that sacred privilege, is extra encouaging as I find these good souls committing their lives actively to do justice, love mercy and grow in their love and creative devotion to our God and others. I am in awe at what all those I mentor are doing with their lives to make a difference in our world, literally around the globe.
