Thursday: 27June13--when friendship and beauty are equal.......
This is a model of the mountain.
A year ago we were in Alaska. Stunned by the beauty. Further stunned by being in a small single engine plane flying up into the top of Mr. McKinley (Danali...the name given by the First Nation people who saw it first), 20,328'.
Approaching the Harper Glacier (see the model picture above) between the North and South Peaks.
For whatever the wild reasons, the skies cleared to make it to all the way up into between the north and south peaks. We had to circle several times in the middle of the mountain to gain the altitude. We learned that was most unusual to get to do that with clear skies. Stunned by the beauty. In awe of the majesty of creation. Thankful to the Creator.
On the way out by land, this was our last view of the mountain before a wild storm blew in.
It was 92 miles flying in for a hour and 20 minutes.
It was four and a half slow hours riding out in a bus.
What remarkable moments to remember.
Was it really just a year ago. So much has happened that it seems like three or four. Time has flown so fast it seems like maybe five months ago. The experience was beyond words.
Today here in Philly, it has rained. By choice we've not left our friend's home. We came to be with friends, not see the sights. Much talk. Much retooling some needs on the computer. Much reflection on the meaning of these people in our own lives at crucial times. And we in theirs. Wondering, when next we will be be together.
For many reasons it was good to be here for two nights and one full day. We hope for more time with these beautiful souls. McKinley a year ago was spectacular. So was today, in adding another layer to very special friendships.
We thank the creator for both experiences. Til memory fades, each time has had it's perfect and sacred place in our lives.
