One of my favorite times of day (among several) is early morning before sunrise...quiet...no one but me moving. Most days, the routine is to quickly check overnight emails/text...grind some coffee beans...light three candles to be reminded that in the stillness I'm not alone, the Triune is ever present...and to settle into some reading and contemplation that will both stir and nourish my olde soul.
Today when checking the emails, Inward/Outward had the following quote...
I don't think that it is always necessary to talk about the deepest and most private dimension of who we are, but I think we are called to talk to each other out of it, and just as importantly to listen to each other out of it, to live out of our depths as well as our shallows. We are all of us adolescents, painfully growing and groping our way toward something like true adulthood, and maybe the greatest value we have both to teach and to learn as we go is the capacity to be amazed...which is a power to heal us and bless us and in the end maybe even to transform us into truly human beings at last.
If anything I've been learning the past two+ years, in both the glorious and hard moments (...learning and relearning...), it is to be more human, in all 8 of the dimensions of my life (...you also have those 8 dimensions...). After reading the above quote I went to our livingroom bookcase, where I've got my own "Buechner library," and was encouraged to find the book that contained this quote.
I may be almost 70...but I daily welcome growing up some more. Truth be known, I need to keep growing up. There is so much more to grow into in this third 3rd of my life. What an adventure.......!
What about you? Where do you need to keep growing?
...you come to our home, even for some early morning coffee, you will see this magnificent work of art...great story about how it came to be...come, sip and see it some time! :-)
