Life...to the max!

...a question, or three, about reading:

How often do you read a book a second time?

If you ever do...how soon after the first reading do you read that book again.......and maybe even again?

What do you believe draws you into do that reading again?

I would welcome hearing your answer(s).

Me?

I re-read several books in 2011 and find myself doing it again in 2012. 

Up extra early on this last Monday of January '12, in the sacred quiet of our home, I continued to read in Martin Laird's life-giving tome, Into The Silent Land: A Guide to the Christian Practice of Contemplation.  We had the privilege of a family dream this past Christmas of being in Costa Rica...where I completed read this book...the first time.  This past week I picked it up again...very grateful that I did, as the words carried me through a very important week and are preparing me for a significant two weeks to come.

Today I went to Fitness19 just before sunrise here in Parker to tackle the treadmill for four miles, and could not get this thought out of my mind that was formed from my own quiet introspection from what I read yet again this morning, invited to ponder from around pp 80-83...

When we move from being a victim to a witness of what is happening in our lives we begin to stop "shoulding" on ourselves.  Let's keep that up and see where our deep longings, sacred dreams and radical imaginations may just take us.

...reading the book mentioned above in the early morning during our Chritmas trip to Costa Rica...welcome memories abound...

        This video was sent to me by a good friend this past week.  When we think of all the sacrifices that are being made across our world...this is moving.

        It is taken from a British series where a oung guy called Gareth Malone takes a group of people and turns them into a choir.  This time he's taken a group of military wives whose husbands are all away in Afghanistan and turned them into a choir.  Gareth looks about 16yrs old but is actually in his mid-30s and Choir Master for the London Symphony Orchestra, among other things.

        They wrote a song based on excerpts from letters written by the couples while apart.  What you will see and hear is the beautiful result!

2012 has finally begun.......

OK, you say, it began over two weeks ago.

What's up with now?

Good question.

But...finally...it has taken off.

...Desert Father's '12: Day Two.......

        This is our daily "wake up" view here @ Desert Fathers '12...taken from the great room of the home we are meeting in.  What a gathering place...gratefully loaned to we 17 men.

        Yesterday was an important day for we "olde" men here in the SoCal desert...important for each one of us.  We listened deep to next-life-chatpers in our lives...laughed...kidded...shed tears...caught up with each other...had times of quiet pondering...some walked, swam, golfed, walked, biked, read, slept...whatever was needed in the afternoon "free" time.

Hey...good morning!!!

        Out here in the SoCal Desert near Indio it's extra dark.  Snores are heard through the walls of this magnificent desert home at which we are gathered.  That sound, is the sound of old men sleeping that let's me know they are still here...still alive...and for this early morning pondering, I am glad to hear their odd "music of the moment."  I probably added my fair share to the sounds of the night before awakening.  :-)

        Who is the "we?"

No...I've not disappeared.

Yes...I am doing some valued regrouping.

Most welcome in this unique year in my life.

Expecially here in Denver this wild football weekend...

...what pressure on one good young man.  :-)

I'm betting he can handle it...with class.

2011 has slipped into history.

Thankfully.

2012 has birthed new hope.
