In a few hours Judy and I will be totally off the grid of computing, Facebooking, texting, tweeting, and bleating. However, with our new found freedom, we may be found to be bebopping to the sounds of Christmas music as we begin our family Christmas holiday.
We are off the grid from the 15th through the 26th. It's going to be fun to wake up tomorrow and know we are incommunacado...by choice...we need, want and are looking forward to the time as just family.
Here are some books and readings by some in each category of mentoring who have impacted me. This makes for good, meaningful, instructive reading. Of course...there are many more volumns I can suggest if you read all these and need more. :-)
PRIMARY MENTORS:
At my age...most of those I've looked to have passed through the "thin veil." But one, still very much alive is David Roper in Boise, ID. This good man continues to inform and challenge me...most often through his email missives. You can sign up to receive future emails here and ask David to put you on his list. You can look at his past wisdom here...and it is well worth the read...any time.
FROM ONE I MENTOR:
Pablo Giacopelli is a new friend this year...but, as with all those I mentor...a growing and valued relationship. It has surprised us both. As do most I know whom I mentor, he has quite a life story...full of redemption...which deeply encouraged my olde soul...and will your own.
He's just released a book, Holding On Loosely, which is engaging fiction, based on the fact of his story as an international tennis coach. Well worth the read, as you experience lives changing from what they release from a tight grip...and you also need to get the complementary study guide on his website...where you also find a short, good video on the book.
PEER MENTORS:
As in all these four categories, there are many more people I could mention...and will in future blog posts. These men and women in this peer mentor category are those I can access quickly to gain counsel and wisdom. I trust them...and we have relationship that only keeps growing.
Three men, co-authors, who easily come to mind are John Lynch, Bruch McNicol and Bill Thrall. It has been a joy to be on the advisory counsel of thier work...and we have walked with each other over a number of years through the thick and thin of life.
They now have a new book out (about time dude friends!)...and it is the best yet from these fine souls! The Cure is "must read" as we change years and seasons and days...and fess up to the needed and/or imposed changes in our lives. I am going to read it again on our time off...it is a read I've needed in this season of my own life journey.
To help you catch the flavor of the book, as with Pablo's book, well done videos will most likey have you choosing to get the book...soon. Video 1.......Video 2.......Video 3 wooed me in, and I hope they do you, too.
DISTANCE MENTORS:
Wow...these are numerous, as well (this comes from the heart of one blessed man). Some long gone...some in their prime...some beginning the rise to influencing us all in their writing. One man I wish I could have a 90 minute conversation with is Frederich Buechner. I've read once around a couple of years ago, Secrets In The Dark: A Life In Sermons...and will give it another focused read in the next two weeks. What a gem...of a man...of a book...of any of his writings.
Well...as someone named Bugs once said, "That's all folks!" Add these to your Christmas list. Get them yourself. Be blessed. And...have yourself a Merry Christmas.......!!! God bless you way beyond your dreams in these days!
I'll be back some time just before New Years...........
...and now it's time vacate the web!
