Rounding a corner on the Cherry Creek Bike Trail this AM, finishing up a walk/run training workout for doing a 10K fun in a few weeks, I encountered 3 boys (even at that fairly early time, about an hour before school begins), who were on their determined way some where.
My greeting?
"Good morning, men!"
One of these young guys grabbed his friend by the arm and said, "Did you hear that? He called us men!"
They stopped in their tracks and just looked at me...eyes open wide...big grins...a splendid moment to behold as this day was getting going here in Colorado.
Me: "Where are you gentlemen heading at this hour? It's early for school."
The talkative one: "We're going to Smart School before school."
Me: "OK.......so what's Smart School?" And at that they all giggled like only budding young men their age can laugh so well.
The talkative one: "One of our friend's dad is helping us a couple of days a week before school to learn how to get smarter than everyone else in all our subjects."
Me: "Is it working?"
All three: "Oh yeah! We're going to be the four smartest guys in school this year...!"
One of them: "We need to get going......."
Off they went. Off I went...with an extra smile in my olde soul.
God bless that Dad. God bless those young men on the grow.
Smart school...........!!! What an idea.
Mid-day today, I'm still smiling at that grand encounter.
...this is one of my favorite budding young men on the planet
...just about the age of the three I encountered today
...the pic was taken several months back on the same trail on which I was running
...life is an adventure, if we let it be...
