Yesterday, up in the Rockies, was extra special for us...first, that we were even able to be there. One of the more remarkable happenings seemed a quiet miracle of nature.
Except for about 10 minutes late in the afternoon...there was no wind up in Summit County. From morning to late afternoon we took an easy hike to Cateract Lake...we went over to Copper Mountain and rode a chairlift to the top...after that we drove up Vail Pass and into the Shrine Pass area...all places notorioius for breezes blowing.
But...in the spectacle of the day, clouds hung in the air...barely moving. We had to wait for them to move on. Magical, almost. Tree and wild flowers ( of which there were a profusion...still...this late in the summer...amazing) stood still in all their splendor.
Shhhhh...the peace...the quiet was palpable. Amazing grace, resulting from the calm of nature also nourished our souls. It was one of those "best of days."
...this pic is at the top of Shrine Pass where I walked into a huge mountain meadow and laid down on the warm earth and exhaled and inhaled the peace...what deep joy.......as for a few quiet moment I watched the clouds just hang there.......
Then...coming back home today I found this from Richard Foster. My mind went back to yesterday and the profound simplicity and gift of no wind or breeze...just the stillness...profound stillness...that we all long for and need from time to time.
Someone once said...be still and know. We were...we did...quietly thanking the Creator of it all...for a most welcome day. For the moments shared...there was contentment. We came home thankful.
The wonderful thing about simplicity is its ability to give us contentment. Do you understand what a freedom this is? To live in contentment means we can opt out of the status race and the maddening pace that is its necessary partner. We can shout "NO!" to the insanity which chants, "More, more, more!" We can rest contented in the gracious provision of God.

Isn't it strangely wonderful how creation re-creates our soils as we choose to recreate in His creation

Thank you for the inspiration to "be still"
