...OK, so I'm a prejudiced olde man
...about one person the prejudice will only increase
...on my birthday last week a box arrived from Amazon
...our daughter knows that one of the ways to her father's heart is through books
...and "ain't it grand" that Amazon allows customers to create wish lists for their products
...when giving this precious, delightful, brilliant, funky, beautiful young woman a call of thanks, I loved one of her sentences (not quite, but almost a verbatim here...) that indicated she choose books from my wish list that she might enjoy reading too, and knew I would as she thoughtfully looked at them
...which adds a wonderful dimension to soaking up this gift of love as I begin a summer reading journey through some tomes I've been hoping for:
Claiming Your Place at the Fire ...which is challenging me to get off my duff, dump my excuses and do some writing, to which I've finally made a long awaited commitment to begin doing by the end of this month
Within The Frame: The Journey of Photographic Vision ...written by a friend who is probably the finest photographer I know about for this modern day and future days...stunning book to look at, read through and learn from
Gilead ...a remarkable novel a good friend says whose literary taste and judgment I trust, saved for a hoped for road trip this summer after some surgery, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize, this I've heard is exceptional
Flickering Pixels: How Technology Shapes Your Faith ...intriguing, and hopefully informative, for this olde non-techy who will soon be upgrading, since ye olde computer I'm working from is now five years olde
The Myth of a Christian Religion: Losing Your Religion for the Beauty of a Revolution ...by a favorite author who also wrote Repenting of Religion (vastly important read for me/us a few years back) may also need to be re-read
...all those, combined with the other books in my book list to the left, (...do you yet have your copy of Scared?) and combined with the good people I'll be interacting with in person, Skype, via email, on blogs, FaceBook, etc., this is stacking up to be a summer that will be remembered
...thanks Shannon for being you and loving your Mom and Dad so well from who you are and are becoming...and for helping get the summer imagination off to a good beginning!
...you are loved!!!
