...my father was a World War I veteran who lived until March 1, 1980

...Memorial Day Weekend is looked at as a gateway into summer

...even though the Summer Soltice is still a few days away

...and I am always startled, encouraged and challenged by the last line of this poem by a favorite poet who helps me see life with a certain clarity and reality

...this is a question we all need to be answering

...maybe daily...........

...a "remembering weekend"

...here in the US of A we are at Memorial Day Weekend (the pictures are from the memorial to President Franklin Roosevelt, who served from 1933-1945...one of the most impressive memorials in Washington, DC)

...up in Boulder, Colorado on Monday the Bolder Boulder will be run (one of the classic 10K races in the world)

...and the remembering is to be about all those in America who have given their lives in various wars down through the decades so that possibility of freedom might be available in our country and world

...but...........

...ugh!!!

...our hearts and prayers DO go out to the Steven Curtis Chapman family

...read this from one of my good friends, who is a good friend of theirs

...whether it's the China quake with a death tool of now 80,000

...or the Chapman family

...since reading a friend's book proposal yesterday, these words have been pounding away within my soul with a rare intensity that will not let up
