...this just in from a friend in South Africa
...concerning your thoughts, and mine, about the poor
...I hope you will respond
...and thanx!

...fighting for the sake of the disenfranchised globally
...writing and singing for the sake of us all
...found this on the blog site of our friend, Brian McLaren
...whom we are eager to see in San Diego this weekend
...to witness a deeper shift in where we are soulishly headed
...let us remember He came to set the captives free
...and me
...and we could not be free without what this very day represents, not only in our Christian history, but for our very lives
...as darkness descends, let us not forget the price paid
...for our freedom
...for our very lives
...because He did what He promised
...we are free!
...from his blog, and found in other places this evening
...we find these words spoken today in Philadelphia
...whether you agree, or not, these are potent words to ponder
...especially as we face one of the most unique times of crisis
...our country has every experienced
...listen well
...read it over again
...and pray for truth and courage to prevail in all ways
...beginning with each one of us.
...posting on this St. Pat's Day 2008
...continuing some thoughts from "In The Name of Jesus"
...a necessary read for the person who leads anyone anywhere anytime
...it's as clear as if it were yesterday
...'twas the winter of '89-'90, back in the last century
...the weather was freezing cold, but, per usual after a good snow in Colorado, the sun was blazing bright
...we were living up in Aurora then, the three of us...my wife, our middle-school daughter and me
...in that place, twice remodeled, the front room was well paneled, and book shelves were all around, kind of like our own warm, inviting library
...in addition to a good conversational couch, we had two blue velvet rockers by the front window
...Judy was busy down in the ministry office in our remodeled basement
...and I, having just arrived home from an appointment, settled into one of the rockers to read this new book I had just purchased, by an author that was beginning to truly grow on me and coming on fast within the "must read" scene of some favorite friends who were closet radicals...and becoming less so...way back then
...went for just over 72 hours without cracking open the laptop
...did not email, blog, or facebook
...amazing!!!
...of course, we were in Idaho-ho-ho helping my elder sister's kids (two nieces and a nephew) move her into an assisted-living facility just west of Boise (Judy went up on Monday...I went up on Friday)
...and the laptop was left behind in Colorado-ho-ho-ho
...but still
...it was a nice break from the "cyber-routine"
...so expect some comments soon, since on this trip I read Henri Nouwen's profound gem of a book, "In The Name of Jesus: Reflections on Christian Leadership," for the 15th time since it was published in 1989
...it's fresher than ever, with where I'm at in my own journey
...needs to be read every 12-18 months by any human, male or female, who may consider themselves a Christ-following leader of any stripe or hue or measure of impact on one other...or dozens...even hundreds
Earlier this evening I journeyed into Denver on a slow moving I-25 from here in Parker (SE corner of the Denver metroplex). The goal was to attend a small workshop on the value of pilgrimage. In some sense, the last four hours have been just that in miniature.
