Yesterday, while being driven to the airport in Springfield, Missouri, to return home from a very intense and amazing four days of organizational consulting, my friends needed to make a stop for one more medical checkup. He had experienced the horror of crashing his private plane (not his fault...wind shear) a number of weeks ago...and barely living to tell about it.
These friends of some 20 years have had their lives turned upside down by this event. One of the more robust men I know, 'twas amazing (humbling) seeing him wheelchair dependent most of the time...in some good moments tackling "walking" with crutches...continuing to fight the seriousness of staff infection where his body had been severely fractured. It will be some time before he experiences the full recovery he longs for.
